Academy Award Winner, BAFTA Winner, VES Award Winner, SVP Creative Strategy - Magic Leap
John Gaeta is a creator, inventor and an Academy Award-winning designer best known for his work on the Matrix Trilogy where he explored form bending innovations such as "Bullet Time", “Virtual Cinematography” and "Volumetric Capture" in pursuit of envisioning human, hero and god-like moments. Recent areas of exploration include “Photo Anime”, “Nuvies” (Natural User Movies), “Holo Cinema”, “Immersive Cinema”, Virtual Reality and Mixed Reality.
In 2015, John Gaeta co-founded Lucasfilm’s Immersive Entertainment division: ILMxLAB. “ILMxLAB seeks to “Develop, Produce and Release premium, story based Immersive Entertainment Experiences for Star Wars and other imaginative universes”.
He served as its Executive Creative Director, overseeing content strategy and multi platform portfolio development. Amongst the premier original experiences being currently developed or released is CARNE y ARENA by Alejandro Inarritu, the forthcoming virtual reality series based on Darth Vader being written and produced with writer David Goyer (Dark Knight) and forthcoming Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire VOID experience.
He worked closely with Lucasfilm’s Star Wars Story Group, Concept Group, Advanced Development Group (for Real Time Graphics), Industrial Light and Magic’s Virtual Production and R&D Groups and Disney’s Imagineering.
As of October, 2017, John Gaeta assumes the new role: SVP Creative Strategy at Magic Leap.
