Emily Dean
Director, Love, Death + Robots
Emily Dean is an Asian-Australian director based in Los Angeles currently directing an episode on Netflix’s Love Death + Robots.
Emily has worked as a story artist and development consultant specializing in science fiction, fantasy, drama, and female character development for studios including Warner Bros, Animal Logic, Sony Pictures Animation, Skydance Animation, Netflix and Snap Inc. Her credits include animated feature films such as The Lego Batman Movie and The Lego Movie 2; the live action sci-fi thriller Hotel Artemis; and the Academy Award winning animated short film Hair Love.
In 2012 Emily’s first animated short film, Forget Me Not, an allegorical fairytale about Alzheimer’s Disease, was nominated for an Australian Academy Award (AACTA). Her live action sci fi short Andromeda screened at numerous genre festivals including the Trieste Science+Fiction Festival in 2018. In 2019 Emily was one of Variety Magazine’s Top 10 Animators To Watch and in 2021 she was named one of Piaget’s Extraordinary Women.
