
Alexandre Poncet
Director, Composer, Film Historian
Alexandre Poncet has been writing in renowned magazines such as Mad Movies, Classica, Science & Vie Junior or PlayStation Official. Through Mad Movies, he wrote books and special issues on iconic film series like Alien, Predator, Jurassic Park, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Evil Dead or The Lord of the Rings. He co-founded the production company Frenetic Arts in 2007 and produced the documentary Ray Harryhausen – Special Effects Titan by Gilles Penso, which was released in 2012. He worked with Gilles Penso again on the Award-winning documentary Creature Designers – The Frankenstein Complex (2016). Poncet and Penso concluded their « Monster Trilogy » with Phil Tippett: Mad Dreams And Monsters (2019), which in 2022 was adapted into a book, Mad Dreams And Monsters: The Art of Phil Tippett And Tippett Studio, published by Cameron+Company / Abrams. As a composer, Alexandre Poncet scored Sacha Feiner’s Un monde meilleur (2012) and Last Door South (winner of the « Best Animated Short » Magritte in 2016). He also scored Derrière le masque des super-héros (2013), a documentary produced by Disney Channel. In 2014 and 2017, he composed original themes for The Art of Marvel and The Art of DC exhibitions by Art Ludique – Le Musée in Paris. Between 2021 and 2023, he curated several exhibitions for the Centre des Arts d’Enghien-Les-Bains and the Musée Cinéma & Miniature in Lyon, including The Art of Batman: The Hero With A Thousand Faces in collaboration with acclaimed filmmaker Jay Oliva, and Magnifying Pop-Culture: The Art of Drew Struzan in collaboration with the Struzan family. Alexandre Poncet is currently working on The Prophecy of Starship Troopers and Walking With Animators, two documentary features which should be released in 2025.
