Virtual Production for Doctor Who’s 60th Anniversary
REALTIME was challenged to create a cutting-edge virtual production workflow using Unreal Engine for Doctor Who: Wild Blue Yonder, one of the three special episodes commemorating the show's 60th anniversary.
With the return of the much-loved David Tennant as the Doctor and Catherine Tate as Donna, the Tardis takes the Doctor and Donna to the further edge of adventure. To escape, they must face the most desperate fight of their lives, with the fate of the universe at stake. James and Jonathan will discuss how the studio’s long history working in unreal engine in the games and automotive industries translated into the world of high-end TV. They will go into the virtual production process developed for the hour-long episode, the virtual camera technology used on set and how the team crafted the environment in real-time.
