Character Development in Feature Animation
A memorable character is more than a compelling design. They have a point of view, desires, contradictions, relationships, and a story that changes them.
In this hands-on workshop, Emmy-nominated Art Director and Head of Story Alessandra Sorrentino explores the creative choices that bring animated characters to life, from visual identity and psychology to relationships, acting, wants and needs, and character arc. Participants will develop an original character and place them within a larger story, using guided exercises to explore both character and scene.
The workshop combines presentation and hands-on exercises applicable to both storyboarding and writing. No drawing skills are required, the focus is on the strength of the idea and the storytelling choices.
