
Morten Thorning
Executive Producer, Director, Writer, Creative Consultant
Morten Thorning began his career as a musician, composer, writer, and producer/director of radio drama and comedy at Danmarks Radio. He later moved into youth television, working as a producer and reporter of documentary features.
From 1988 to 2019, he served as the founder and General Director of The Animation Workshop, which he developed into a visionary international center dedicated to the art, craft and profession of animation. His initiatives included the establishment of three bachelor’s educations, the artist residency Open Workshop (1997), the Drawing Academy(1998), the incubation house Arsenalet (2012), the Viborg Animation Festival (2012), and the national R&D Center for Animation, Visualization, and Digital Storytelling(2017).
Morten has received several prestigious honors, including the Danish Bodil Honorary Award (2017) and the Norwegian Golden Gunnar (2021) for lifetime achievements in animation, as well as the Hanne Hansen Prize (2016) and the Ping Prize (2020) for his contributions to the Danish graphic novel field.
Today, Morten works across animation and XR as a scriptwriter, executive or creative producer, director, and artistic consultant through his companies Bureau G and SCRPT. He is also active with Creative Viborg, where he leads the European ERASMUS+ Innovation Alliance PANEURAMA and the Center of Vocational Excellence AVENUE. Additionally, Morten has long-standing experience in establishing creative projects in Africa and Latin America.
