Chris Browne
VFX Supervisor, Filmmaker
Chris Browne is the Global Visual Effects Supervisor for Sony Pictures Animation and an award-winning filmmaker whose career spans directing, visual effects, animation, studio leadership, and production technology.
He previously served as Studio-Wide Visual Effects Supervisor at DreamWorks Animation and Head of CG Production at Bardel Entertainment, where he supervised CGI productions across series and feature films for a studio of more than 700 people. Earlier, he founded Digital Alchemy Entertainment, leading a team of 40 artists across nine years of visual effects production.
In 2026, Chris became a two-time Sony technology grant recipient, receiving support to create original films using emerging production technologies and experimental workflows.
As a filmmaker, Chris has written and directed award-winning short films selected by dozens of international festivals across North America and Europe. He is an Annie Award nominee and multiple Leo Award winner, most recently winning for Best Visual Effects after personally completing more than 200 VFX shots himself on PLEROMA, which competed against major studio-backed productions.
His latest film, TERRITORIAL, is an animated prehistoric thriller developed through Sony's Creative Technology initiative, combining filmmaking with new approaches to virtual production, global collaboration, and post-direction.
His work and ideas have been featured by Animation World Network, Animation Magazine, befores & afters, and Visual Effects World Network. He has also been invited to present projects and lead workshops for Sony Pictures Entertainment, Sony Pictures Imageworks, Sony Pictures Animation, DreamWorks, and Bardel Entertainment.
What distinguishes Chris is the breadth of his practice: he has led large-scale productions and international teams, built pipelines and tools in Python, supervised artists and creative development, and remained a hands-on filmmaker with experience in directing, VFX, CG supervision, lighting, compositing, and look development.
His current focus is on using that combination of filmmaking, technology, and production experience to develop and direct ambitious original feature films.
