Johnny Han
VFX Supervisor & 2nd Unit Director, The Penguin (HBO)
Johnny Han is an Emmy award winning visual effects supervisor and 2nd unit director with 25 years of experience in the film, television, and advertising industries. Currently he is the VFX supervisor on the feature film GOLD MOUNTAIN, being directed by Ang Lee. Prior to that Johnny worked on HBO’s DUNE PROPHECY s2 and HBO’s THE PENGUIN, where he helped bring worlds like Arrakis and Gotham City to life through a combination of in-camera practical and digital techniques.
His previous credits include Superman Returns, Spider-Man 3, 2012, Pacific Rim, Smallville, Heroes, and The Nevers. He’s worked at some prestigious studios such as Lucasfilm‘s ILM, ScanlineVFX, Framestore, Sony Imageworks, among others.
Over the course of his career, Johnny has accumulated an Emmy Award and two additional nominations for Outstanding Visual Effects, along with two Visual Effects Society Awards and six more nominations. In 2026 he was nominated for an HPA Award for innovation in production and capture. He’s known for his collaborative approach and for bridging the gap between on-set production and inventive VFX solutions.
