Alasdair Coull
VP of Special Projects, Weta Digital
Alasdair Coull is Vice President of Special Projects at Weta Digital. His team works at the cutting-edge of new technologies, bringing AR, VR, game-engine, and LED technology to enhance Weta Digital’s industry-leading visual effects workflow.
Alasdair kickstarted the creation of virtual reality content at Weta Digital as the creative lead and supervisor on Weta’s 2015 Hobbit VR experience. Heading up Peter Jackson’s augmented reality company Wingnut AR, he then led content creation for almost every AR and VR platform and launched several technologies, including partnering with Apple and Epic Games to create content for the world-launch of ARKit.
Alasdair has worked in visual effects research and development for over sixteen years and has been credited on over twenty movies. In 2015, he won an Academy Technical Achievement Award for architectural and engineering design for Weta Digital’s hair-grooming system, the results of which were first seen in the Oscar-nominated Planet of the Apes trilogy.
