Filmmaking Fever Dream: Crafting "Turning Red"

Turning Red is one of Pixar’s most outrageous efforts yet, full of the energy and awkwardness of teen life. So when a director tells you the visual goal for a film is a “teenage fever dream” what do you do? In the case of Turning Red you turn to anime, video games, graphic arts and “cute things that are chunky…you know? Chunky cute!” Not to mention, of course, everyone’s middle school yearbooks. In this talk, you will hear from Danielle Feinberg, the Visual Effects Supervisor on Turning Red, about how the crew rallied to meet the film’s visual goals and amp up the stylistic flourishes, embracing the opportunity to break the rules of animation to craft something entirely new.
