Story drops! Story drops! Why can’t the directors, writers and story artists make their deadlines and quota, when the back end can?
After almost 20 years as a story executive in animation at the Walt Disney Animation Studios and Illumination Entertainment, Maggie is here to tell us: there is no easy answer. But there are patterns and method in the madness. Maggie will share some of her philosophies informed by helping to break the stories of Moana, Zootopia, Big Hero 6, Frozen, Wreck-it Ralph, Ralph Breaks the Internet and the upcoming, unannounced 2022 film from Illumination Entertainment. Including her belief that: there is no way to tell a satisfyingly surprising but inevitable story unless, at some point, the filmmakers become as lost and hopeless as their heroes.
