Keys and Mindset to Hike the Mountain of Concept Art

I will go through defining what concept art is in the industry and what you might need from an artistical, technical and personal perspectives to work in pre-production as a concept artist.

As a self-taught artist, I will also cover my background, education and career shift and how metaphorically speaking "mountain hiking" can express the initiatory path we all took in our career, just like in a road trip movie.

Sébastien Hue is a french freelance concept artist and illustrator. He has been professional for more than 5 years, working worldwide for various companies from publishing, to video games, animation and feature films. Mostly specialized in environment design and science-fiction, he started 10 years ago when inspired by the likes of Dylan Cole and Dusso. He decided to teach himself the ins and outs of digital painting, initially starting out with Photoshop and then 3D with 3DSmax and Vue. Formerly Community Volunteer for Deviantart Sci-Fi gallery, he made a huge career shift at the age of 37 to become officially professional freelance CG artist in 2014 and left behind him his 15-years experience in supply chain management and oil industry background.
