Generations of Houdini

Houdini has been used in hundreds of movies, AAA games, TV series and commercials, to help create breath-taking animation. In this session, through the lens of Houdini developers and artists, Kim will tell stories from the past to the present, and look ahead to the future of computer graphics

In 1996, SideFX released Houdini 1.0, bringing the power of procedural methods to visual effects artists around the world. This year, more than two decades since Houdini's original release, SideFX was awarded a Scientific and Technical Academy Award of Merit (Oscar Statuette) to recognize its continual innovation and dedication to visual effects artists.

The roots of Houdini began in a software called PRISMS which Kim helped develop – first at Omnibus in 1985-86 and then at SideFX from 1987-96. PRISMS and then Houdini have always been on the leading edge. Kim will provide insights how SideFX has been able to innovate consistently over 31 years to keep Houdini at the forefront of computer graphics production and he’ll provide a peak of what is ahead.

A Q&A will follow the talk.
