STEFANO CIERI, Lighting and Rendering TD, CANECANE
Freelance designer and digital content creator, Stefano lives and works in Rome. Currently, he works in the design and visual communication fields for a variety of clients. Lately, he collaberated with CANECANE, as a Lighting and Rendering TD, for the movie Box Office 3D.
In the last few years, he worked on two animated feature films, at Rainbow Cgi; also, he taught Digital Design, Fashion Design, Design Illustration and Sustainable Design in different of schools and universities.
He earned a BA in industrial design and an MA in system design, and a postgraduate in Techniques for Multimedia.
Mostly, Stefano loves living in the very middle of his two brain’s halves, where art and technique meet.
Every time he can, he researches on sustainable development, and possible applications in design, informatics and communication.
Taxiceratops: anatomy and behaviour of a digital creature born in Rome
In Italy, the debate on cinematography becomes vague, somewhat contradictory and always unresolved every time the visual effects topic comes up.
In fact, Italian visual effects’ culture is not that renowned. There’s plenty of valuable Italian studios and professionals working in this field (both at home and abroad), continuously producing relevant results and proving remarkable skills, though. Anyway such skills and results are to be contextualized, in order to be correctly interpreted and to be fully understood.
The making of a full CG creature for the movie Box Office 3D, the first live-action stereo 3D movie in Italy, will be presented as an opportunity to analyze and discuss the way Italian cinematography influenced visual effects professionals and their practices. Key aspects for such comprehension will be discussed, in the attempt to understand what lead to the present scenario, which opportunities are being born, and what limits are yet to be overcome.
