Maureen Fan is CEO and cofounder of Baobab Studios, the leading VR animation studio. She co-founded Baobab with Eric Darnell, who directed and wrote Madagascar and all 3 franchise sequels, netting over $2.5 billion in the box office and Larry Cutler, who is a judge for the Oscar Technical Achievement awards, former Global Head of Character Tech at Dreamworks Animation, and TD on Pixar’s Toy Story 2, and Monsters Inc. Their animated VR film, Invasion!, starring Ethan Hawke, is top ranking in the Oculus Rift and Samsung Gear VR service. It was showcased on every major VR platform including Hulu, in Times Square with T-Mobile/Samsung, and at Sundance with Comcast/NBC Universal, Oculus, and Samsung. Invasion! has been accepted to Tribeca, Cannes, Annecy, Shanghai Film Festival, SIGGRSPH, and VIEWFEST. Their advisors include Glen Keane (Directing Animator of The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Tangled, Beauty & the Beast, etc), Alvy Ray Smith (Pixar co-founder), Glenn Entis (PDI/Dreamworks Animation co-founder), Mireille Soria (Co-president, Dreamworks Animation), David Anderman (former Lucasfilm COO), and Kevin Lin (Twitch COO and co-founder)
Maureen has held leadership roles in film, gaming and the consumer web. She was most recently vice president of games at Zynga, where she oversaw three game studios, including the FarmVille sequels, which contributed to over 40 percent of the company’s revenues. Previously, she worked on Pixar’s “Toy Story 3” film and at eBay in product management and UI design. Her most recent collaboration, “The Dam Keeper,” directed by Dice Tsutsumi and Robert Kondo, was nominated for the 2015 Oscar Best Animated Short. She received her undergraduate degree in an interdisciplinary program in computer science, art and psychology from Stanford University graduating Phi Beta Kappa and earned her master’s degree in business from Harvard University.
