| Director of
Torino 2008 World Design Capital
A 33 year-old economics
graduate, Paola Zini worked on the drafting of the First Strategic
Plan for the city of Torino, the first of its kind in Italy,
thanks to her specific experience in the study of local development
strategies. This work led to the establishment of relations
with ICSID (International Council of Societies of Industrial
Design), the world's most important design organisation, which
nominated Torino as the first World Design Capital in 2008.
Thanks to her competencies, she was then appointed to head
the Organising Committee of Torino 2008 World Design Capital.

Torino 2008 World
Design Capital
ICSID, (International Council of Societies
of Industrial Design), the world's largest
organisation dedicated to industrial design, has nominated
Torino as the first “World Design Capital” for
2008, recognising the success of the city and the entire region
of Piemonte in the profound process of transformation underway,
developed by combining the strong industrial tradition with
the vocation for innovation and research.
Over 120 events in our Calendar. These will pivot around four
major themes - Public Design, Economy and Design, Education
and Design, Design Policies - four ways of viewing design,
with the goal of addressing four specific target groups: citizens,
business, education and institutions. As World Design Capital,
Torino is called on to represent the whole of Italy in the
framework of the culture and tradition of design and to promote
around the world the values of the best in what is Made in
Italy.
