Gianluca Zaffiro graduated cum laude in Electronic Engineering at the Politecnico of Torino in 1992 and afterwards obtained a Master Degree in Telecommunications. He joined Telecom Italia in 1994.
In 2001-2002 he was involved with the start of the Mobile Instant Messaging Service of TIM, focused on marketing issues.
From 2003 he has worked to strategically support technological innovation in the Mobile Service area of TIM.
During 2004-2005 he collaborated to several activities on Fixed-Mobile Convergence.
Currently he is with Innovation Trends group, working at identifying Telecommunications trends, defining scenarios of evolution ICT and their impact on communication services. He is activity leader for Telecom Italia on Presence topics in a European Coordinated Action of the 6th Framework Programme.

The Landscape and Roadmap of Presence Research in Europe

Presence is an emerging field focusing on understanding the cognitive experience of being somewhere and developing technologies to generate and augment it: Being someone or something, somewhere, sometime, without physically being there.
In the session, some results of the PEACH Coordination Action will be described, defining the research landscape and the Presence potential scenarios.
