After studying „Visual Communication" and an additional training in computer graphics, Sabine Hirtes worked as an 2D/3D artist since 1989 in different companies.
From 1993 on, assistant lecturer at Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg in the department „Digitale Bildgestaltung", Prof. Thomas Haegele. Additionally work as freelance CG artist and lecturing abroad. 1997 responsible for the video studio and 2D/3D work for several artists at the ZKM I Centre for Art and Media, Karlsruhe at the Institute for Visual Media, headed by Jeffrey Shaw. After 2 years, 1999, work for Al Ahram video department, Cairo, and from 2000 on Art Director for realtime character development in Cologne. Since 2002 working at the newly founded Institute of Animation, Visual Effects and Digital Postproduction at Filmakademie Baden- Wuerttemberg.

The Institute of Animation, Visual Effects and Digital Postproduction at
Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany

Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg was founded in 1991. Animation was part of studies right from the beginning. Today, the Film Academy offers over 500 students practical education in the areas of film, television and new media. Future film animators, cutters, screenwriters, film music composers, camera operators, media designers, film producers, directors, actors, sound designers and production designers learn how to make films by doing just that under the supervision of guest instructors from all areas of film and in close cooperation with all of Filmakademie´s other departments.
Since 2002, the Institute of Animation, Visual Effects and Digital Postproduction, managed by Prof. Thomas Haegele, has been responsible for education in the subject of animation and visual effects as well as the digital postproduction of all Filmakademie projects. In all courses of study, emphasis is placed on independent and responsible work within the team. The contents of studies at the Institute of Animation are wideranging.
The main emphasis is placed on the creation of animated short films, visual effects, real time animation, concept and design of animated formats and Technical Director training.
