Second Life
Mattia Crespi, CEO of ISN Virtual Worlds,
will present an introductory talk about the metaverse Second
Life, aimed at participants without in-depth or technical
experience of the platform.
Mattia will address the options for business and education
in Second Life, and the power of this virtual world to bring
about new forms of social interaction.
The way that people relate to each other through their avatars
is a product of the unique qualities of Second Life. In an
anonymous world where one can change every aspect of behavior
with a click of a mouse, what drives the long-lasting relationships
that ultimately make virtual worlds so absorbing?
Mattia will draw on his research into the meta-aesthetics
of Second Life to discuss the psychology and values underlying
these interactions.
In 2007, business opinions of Second Life have undergone a
rollercoaster ride, from a whole-hearted endorsement as the
future of marketing, to its dismissal it as just another internet
fad. Yet Second Life presents compelling opportunities for
companies and brands through its social dynamic. Viral marketing
campaigns, sponsorship, building brand communities and virtual
product launches are innovative, efficient ways to leverage
a new type of on-line community.
Education and Second Life are ideal partners, especially with
the rich media content, music and video streaming and VOIP
technologies now fully incorporated into the user experience.
The platform allows for educational content in various formats,
from on-demand materials for individual learning, to interactive
seminars for a class of interested residents.
This talk will be supplemented with media content and explanatory
sides. There will be time at the end for questions from the
audience.
